Great for Review July 23, 2010 Migsy This set is great for reviewing material that you are already confident about or have a good understanding of. So what's the point of buying it then if you already know your stuff? Because it helps cement it into your brain. I bought the Kaplan books first and studied their materials. I followed it up with this to get a different perspective and it really, really helped! I love this book because of the unique and (mostly) funny way they present the concepts. I highly recommend this!
Save your money! July 20, 2010 Ken Let me start by saying that I also purchased Audio Osmosis and love it, so I'm not an Examkrackers hater. However, the "Complete Study Package" is full of errors in the answer keys to the in-book tests. I guess that I should be happy that I learned enough in my classes to catch the mistakes, but how about the material I am a little fuzzy on? What it comes down to is if the editors were so sloppy in editing the text, why should you trust any of the information they give you? I have learned very quickly that there is no MCAT prep that cares at all if I score well on the test - as long as they get my money.
I am going to trust that since I earned the grades necessary to be a competitive candidate, I can intensively review the material on my own, take the FREE AAMC practice test, and do well enough on the MCAT without having to play "find the 'errata'".
Decent books July 13, 2010 G. Singh I bought these books about two weeks ago and have been using them as a study material since. I will try my best to be as objective as possible during this review.
My background knowledge of the material covered (Physics, Organic Chemistry, General Chemistry, and Biology) is pretty good. Verbal I haven't reviewed yet.
The review sections of the ExamKracker's books are absolutely terrible. They are very confusing, complicated, and pretty challenging to understand. The author says in some parts that "This material will not be covered on the MCAT" and then begins asking questions related to that material. To make matters worse, the question answer parts are terrible. The explanations provided are far below standard and do not delve deep enough into the concepts to explain WHY a certain answer is correct (despite the author saying the MCAT is about conceptual understanding).
However, that is my entire negative. The questions are VERY good and VERY much in the MCAT format. I wish there were more questions. I suggest knowing what you're doing prior to answering the questions as having strong understanding will help you understanding why an answer may be wrong (as I mentioned the explanations provided are shoddy).
BETTER GET READY FOR A JAILHOUSE WELCOME MCAT!!! July 3, 2010 sal Although i am still studying for the MCAT, Examkrackers has boosted my confidence level tremendously. Everything is explained very clearly and only the information that is tested by the MCAT is covered. I have been using other companies practice test to see if what i am learning from Examkrackers is truly the right way and so far so good! I would RECOMMEND WITHOUT RESERVATION!!!
Don't buy any other prep company's materials! June 17, 2010 Jasmine Liu (IL) 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
I signed up for the Kaplan classroom course since everyone told me you "have to" take a prep course in order to be on equal footing with everyone else. If someone told you that, do NOT listen to them! It was the worst $1900 I have ever spent. I took the MCAT two weeks after my class finished, as Kaplan suggested, and did not reach the 30 mark.
Please, save your money and buy the ExamKrackers prep books instead! I read all five lesson books, listened to the Audio Osmosis CDs, bought official AAMC practice exams and practiced taking them, and also practiced reading a few verbal passages from their 101 Verbal Passages book. ExamKrackers strategies are much more effective than anything I learned with Kaplan and the books tell you just enough information to succeed on the exam. I know a few of my friends did meticulously study from all their notes by matching them to the AAMC website's outlines, but I didn't want to waste my time digging through thousands of pages of notes. Thanks to ExamKrackers, I got above 30 on my second MCAT.
I would highly recommend that you finish all your premed courses before you attempt the MCAT. Also, make sure you buy a few of the official old AAMC exams to practice with. I know the latter are pricey, but they are the only tests that are indicative of the real thing.
Best of luck. If you decide to buy these, you are making the right decision and won't be disappointed.
