Returned....unfortunatelyMarch 12, 2010 B. Brandt(Dodgeville, Mi United States) Unfortunately I had to return this. It was intended as a present for my neo-luddite father who does not use a computer. Because there was no reception at his house (and he could not download from the computer he refuses to use) he could not use this. I think that we would have loved it if there had been Sprint cell reception. I have to say though that I debated for a long time before I purchased this because I didn't want to get stuck with it if he didn't like it or couldn't use it for some reason and there was some hassle with the return. I contacted Amazon before I bought it and they sent me details about their return policy which looked pretty straight forward. When I finally did return it I was very leery of the outcome, but everything went completely smoothly, AND the return label that I shipped it with only decreased my refund by $2.98. I was extremely happy with the experience...even though the item was not kept.
Larger size is much better for meMarch 12, 2010 T. OGrady-Walsh(Washington D.C.) This size is far better for quick readers.
- With the smaller Kindle at normal font, you're turning pages every few seconds.
- With the DX, I turn pages similar to a paper book.
- I do miss the page-turn buttons on the left hand side though.
- Bonus: school-age boys are far more interested in reading on the Kindle because "it's cool." And with the Kindle, I always have a book available for them to read redardless of where we are
- I also find I read the newspapers more throughly than I do in hard copy, again because I can pick it up and come back to it many times during the day
- The E-ink will keep me with the Kindle vs the back-lit competitors--FAR earlier on the eyes!
Well WORTH every cent!
wouldn't buy another oneMarch 12, 2010 EDWARD ROBINSON(Boca Raton, Fl, US) I wouldn't buy another one. First, I have all kinds of problems with the machine. I do not believe it performs properly. I also miss something that I never realize exists about reading a real book .
I also found the tabs that hold the kindle in the cover broke off easily
Some limitations which should be removedMarch 12, 2010 Giancarlo Ghirardi(Trieste, Trieste Italy) I want to point out that the fact that the possibility of enlarging the text even for pdf's that I have charged on my Kindle by sending them to you and paying for adapting them to Kindle seems to me not fully correct. You have stated that clearly so I am not raising a question of politeness. But for somebody like me (a scientists) who mainly wants to put many scientific papers in the Kindle to have them at his disposal when he is around the world delivering conferences and so on, to read on the Kindle a page, just to mention a specific case, of The Physical Review (even if you turn the Kindle around) is not an easy task.
I realy enjoy my Kindle DXMarch 12, 2010 Michael Farmer(Prescott, AZ) The Kindle DX is perfect for its intended purpose. I have Macular Degeneration and the font choices make reading so much easier than most books. I bought a couple of Bibles but find it too cumbersome to navaigate to different verses to use in church. I wish that my cell phone and digital camera was as easy to view as the Kindle screen. It has everything I want except color. As an artist, it would be nice to be able to download photos of my artwork and use the Kindle as a portfolio. I also find browsing for books cumbersome on the KIndle - it is much easier to surf the amazon.com website to find books. Overall, I am very pleased with this reader.
