4 out of 5 stars Good item, but the instructions could be updated   March 7, 2010
    D. Dodds (Lansing, MI)
We purchased and installed this unit last November. Per the instructions I installed it parallel to the driveway on a pole approximately three feet off of the ground. I would estimate it would work maybe 10% of the time and even occasionally pickup my neighbor driving into his driveway 100 feet away.

I starting playing with the angels the transmitter faced the driveway and found that facing it up the driveway at roughly 30 degrees works the best. Since I have done this it has picked up every vehicle pulling into my driveway. FYI facing the transmitter down the driveway may cause the unit to buzz every time a large vehicle drives down your street.

5 out of 5 stars Long Range, Good Battery life.   February 26, 2010

I have used this item for two years to alert me to possible intruders at the corners of my property. The range between the sensor and the base station is greater than other remote systems I have tried and the batteries last much longer than the others. Also, the dark green color makes it unnoticeable.
Two words of caution - 1. If you add additional sensors, be sure to get the correct model. For this base you need the PIR2-300 add on sensor. (There is also available a CWPIR add on sensor, and it will NOT work with this system. I made that mistake.)
    2. To add an additional sensor to the base station, follow the (brief) instructions carefully.

1 out of 5 stars Disappointed in Chamberlain Driveway alarm   February 19, 2010
    Michael E. Deaver (USA)
I purchased a Chamberlain Reporter driveway alarm for my daughter and son-in-law for Christmas. They live back a 150yard lane and would appreciate knowing when someone is coming up their lane. The Reporter would not sense movement from 5 feet away when we were trying to set it up in the house. I was very disappointed. My Mother-in Law has one and it works great. I thought that maybe we just were unlucky and received a defective unit. Amazon was very good at making an exchange. We received the 2nd unit and it was just as worthless. I thought maybe we were doing something wrong, but the instructions are pretty simple. The unit just plain wouldn't work properly. I wasn't going to try again with another so I returned the unit to Amazon. I must commened Amazon because there were no hassles in making the exchange and return. They even provided shipping labels, so it ended up there was no loss. Just the frustration of not having a reliable unit. I plan to try an X10 unit instead.

I have had good luck with amazon purcahses up until now. I don't feel Amazon should be faulted for the poor quality of this product.

1 out of 5 stars There Are Better Units; Don't Buy!   February 16, 2010
    Cool Creek Bill (Irons, MI)
I've had several Reporters during the past three years, beginning before they were bought out by Chamberlain. I've dealt with erratic alerts and operation, working range much less than claimed, and poor warranty/customer service. I became tired of fiddling with them, and finally gave up and replaced it with a Dakota unit. The Dakota sensor is much more weatherproof and the system has worked flawlessly for the past 3 months. The Dakota has four selectable tones too with volume control - I never liked the Reporter's "squawk".

2 out of 5 stars Not happy with this unit   February 10, 2010
    Frederick (NC)
I wasn't satisfied with this unit. It detected motion about 50% of the time. I tried moving it to a different location, adjusting the sensor to no avail. Its a shame too because as much as this unit costs, it should perform better.

I ended up buying a slightly more expensive unit that has performed flawlessly and it also gives me the capability to add 6 more sensors. Spend your money once and be done with it.
