Don't buy this deviceAugust 2, 2010 Jason The battery lasted a few months and now I have to leave the monitor plugged into the wall. The battery will not charge. I contacted the company and after some negotiating they agreed to sell me a new battery for $25. They sent me a USED battery that again doesn't hold a charge. I don't recommend anyone buy this product.
Using it for a baby monitorJuly 2, 2010 Worried Mommy My husband and I bought this when our baby turned 6 months old because he was starting to roll over and not sleep on his back anymore. I was very worried about SIDS so we wanted to be able to see him without waking him up. We really like the Defender because it has night vision and sound. I like the holster to charge it in, we just leave it next to our bed. We have had a lot of static issues with it however, and just two rooms away the alarm starts to go off. I like the alarm when it sounds in the night because we are sure to wake up if he starts to fuss, but during the day when he is just fussing and doesn't want to go to sleep I wish there was a way to clear the alarm and just listen at leisure. Unfortunately you can only turn the sensitivity down a little. The only other thing I wish it had was a belt loop holster. Other than those few minor things we LOVE it!!! Its so easy to hook up and use!

Interference and Plenty of StaticApril 25, 2010 Daniel Sauer 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Tried it for a few days. When the camera was placed outside in near total darkness the LCD monitor slowly faded to a barely visible circle. However, it seemed to work fairly well inside, you have to constantly turn the LCD monitor to get the best picture or you're going to get a lot of screen noise and static.
One very disturbing problem, we where able to watch the neighbors baby sleeping in her crib on the LCD monitor. The neighbors house is approx. 50 feet away from our home. At first we thought it was some sort of test picture, my daughter suggested a ghost! ;) It was creepy, and frankly having the ability to use the LCD monitor in this capacity is extremely disconcerting to me as a parent, clearly, interference with other monitoring devices is very likely to occur.

Color image only if you are next to the camera. Lots of static even 20 feet away. All that Clear Signal Technology seems to be marketing puffery. Sound is non-existent. Placing the monitor next to the camera should create a screeching feedback loop -- nothing.
Also, I bought the product to be able to leave it active and recording 24/7. The instructions say that it is bad to leave the monitor unit plugged in and running for extended periods. Sort of defeats the purpose of getting it. Trying to get clarification from the company gave me conflicting answers from the different people with whom I spoke. Bottom line is that if you keep it running 24/7 you will cause your unit to run hot and will shorten the life of your battery. (Assuming those answers were correct...)
Warranty return policy for suspected bad merchandise is very constrictive and if they claim the device is good you have to pay $50 (on top of your shipping costs) if you want to get your hardware back. It is almost better to buy another camera to see if the camera is bad but then maybe the monitor is bad and you've put more money into a system that still does not work. I've switched to another product and am much happier.
