A truly remarkable man and I believe this book does great justice to his work and theories.

This is a nice book about how Dr. Erickson healed his patients. Very good to learn from his thought patterns. It is very useful for therapists and for interested individuals as well. I would recommend this book to parents especially, because most of the stories tell you about how to bring up a child, what are the most rewarding behaviours and how you could influence your child in a way that is permanent without abusing him or her.

I have this book. It is a MUST-Have for anybody interested in NLP or therapy.
Milton's way is simple, elegant and unintrusive.
Very different from other `therapies' where you go through a gamut of emotions.
It does take a lot of skill to weave the `truths' into the `stories' that he tells. A form of reframing, except it is subtle, yet goes straight to the un-conscious mind, where the false beliefs are held.
It is said, `The truth shall set you free' and it is a gift to learn the process. At the very least, you can detect your own `stories' (some people call them dramas) that have plagued your life.

5 out of 5 stars Language and communication   January 1, 2007

Milton Erickson was a man who used language and metaphors to bring about change. This book explains how that usage was conducted as therapy. His techniques and others are explained in a book that makes a great companion to his works. The Secret Language of Hypnotherapy by John Smale about the use of language for resolving a huge range of problems is a great companion to this book.
