4 out of 5 stars Great book as always but bad Amazon service   January 30, 2010

Great book as always for a not so good, but normal, price for a new book. And only now I realized that I purchased a 2010 book with almost 5 months in advance! I read the versions 1999 and 2003 while on College and Master in Pathology, respectively. It's amazing how the new authors can keep the usual humor although this is a dense theme and not a comedy textbook. They also have already updated many chapters, including references published in 2009! This is not so common in the majority of the technical textbooks. One chapter I already read is the one about environmental diseases and the impact of world climate change in human diseases. Although the book is excellent I had at least 2 problems with the Amazon purchase. One was about the shipping, they said it was 48h maximum time, but after my credit card was charged I received an email saying that it was submitted to studentconsult and it would take 21 business days...): The second problem was the accessibility to the student consult website to access my book and study online. The key provided in the book did not work in the beginning and trying to contact the customer support by e-mail was driving me crazy, because the attenders were not well prepared. It took me weeks so that I could start to see the contents online. Not their fault, of course, but a manager's logistic problem. They should prepare their staff better. It sounds like many other institutions where the consumer is important only until he pays and what happens afterwards, it's the consumer problem!

4 out of 5 stars A big book   November 18, 2009

Robbins and Cotran's book is quite dense, and goes into more detail than may be necessary in the preclinical years. By the same token, it paints a clear and comprehensive picture of each pathology, so that reading it would leave any student with a great command in each topic for the boards. Blue boxes with key morphological findings concisely illuminate the pathology's major findings. As pathology ties together most of the other preclinical areas of study, this book probably deserves a place in each student's armamentarium.

2 out of 5 stars Pages were missing!   November 13, 2009

The book content itself is fine...but there are 13 pages missing from the index! So when I went to look up a term as I was studying, I was suprised to find that the book was missing 13 pages - indeces R through T. For $95, I would expect that all of the pages be in the book!

This is the most important book about pathology ever released. And this new version is full of news. The most recent research fields about all the systems are now updated, and with new chapters, and photographs. Is worthfull for every student of health sciences.
Awesome!
