Women Food and God August 15, 2010 Mary Eckley (SALEM, OREGON, US) This book is very well written, full of insightful information regarding our relationship with food and other important aspects of our lives.
Enlightening but not practical August 14, 2010 Loving Him (USA) I have read many, many books on eating, including Geneen's earlier works and I came up with my own practical methods of taking off 40 lbs. about 25 years ago, and living and eating so that they have stayed off, except for about 15 lbs. (I am now nearly 50 years old). I've reviewed other books on the subject (you can check out details of my journey on my other reviews).
My favorite book that covers not only the intuitive eating, but also how to "bring it home" and make it practical and workable is "Normal Eating for Normal Weight" by Sheryl Canter. It is a must read for anyone on this journey. Geneen's work is very enlightening but low on practical advice. In one place, she sums up some of the steps that need to be taken on the journey in saying that "you may need to leave your job, your marriage, or move", (I'm paraphrasing) but she is not helpful on showing us what this may look like. "Normal Eating for Normal Weight" does get into the details and step by step help and Sheryl has a website that is very low cost to join for more advice and guidance. (I am not in any way affiliated with Sheryl).
Geneen's work gets you in touch with physical, natural hunger that she calls a godly connection or spirituality. Really, it is the natural laws of mankind that was created by God, so in that sense, I guess it could be called "spiritual" but it is not the "spirituality" that deals with a close, personal relationship with God - and actually - she doesn't claim that it is in this book. She makes that very clear, although the title is somewhat misleading.
Both these women are a blessing for us who struggle with eating issues and the days when I would talk about this stuff and people would think I was from Mars are long gone. Now most people would say that "diets" and "counting calories" is not the whole answer - it is bigger than that.
Good self help, practical steps... August 14, 2010 4fabfelines (Shelbyville , TN) Good book, has alot of great stories about how she overcame her urges to purge and binge on occasions..

much needed read August 14, 2010 S. Daye (Lex,SC USA) This is a very interesting book, it really gives you insight as to why we over eat or under eat. I would recommend it for women to read.
Insightful and funny August 14, 2010 Jeannie B. Mcdonald (Ocala FL USA) I saw Geneen on Oprah and like her approach. She uses humor to get you to look into the mirror and see yourself in her experiences and the guests at her workshops. Laughter opens up the heart to let go of habitual ways of seeing things. I enjoyed the book.
