Great book! It has all the info I wanted. I am currently pregnant and have a pile of books, and this is by far my favorite.

Great book. Really liked the end of section "when to call your doctor" section. I preferred the Your Pegnancy Week by Week for more detail on what was going on inside me. I had them both and would recommend both of them - together.

My husband and I are talking about starting a family in the near future, so I wanted a reference to read to determine fact from fiction when it comes to pregnancy. On the day that the book arrived, I sat on the couch for almost two hours reading it. The layout of the book is nice in the way that it breaks up the time from pre-pregnancy, to a week by week explanation of the actual pregnancy, to post-pregnancy. It has definitely been helpful to me at this point in my life, and it will be a life saver to refer to once we do get pregnant. I definitely recommend the book to anyone who is planning to be a mom.

5 out of 5 stars If you only get one pregnancy book, this is the one to get.   May 13, 2010

I received this book free from my insurance company for completing a survey.
It is the best of about 7 pregnancy books I own. The most helpful portion is the large list of signs and symptoms you experience at various times during preganancy. The descriptions are usually a page long of a particular symptoms, say Round ligament pain - descriping the symptom, what, how, where, why and what you can do to allevieve the issue, whether or not it is important to discuss with your physician and when to discuss it with him/her. The book also details what is happening to your body and how your baby is growing week by week. It is all inclusive and a must have!

5 out of 5 stars Great information from a qualified source   May 11, 2010

I purchased both this book and "What to expect when you're expecting." I found the information in the Mayo Clinic book to be more well rounded and consistent with current research. The "What to Expect" book presented a lot more don'ts that really aren't current research based, such as the don't eat peanuts thing as it might give your child allergies. Multiple current studies have proven this theory wrong and telling Mom's-to-be not to do this kind of stuff just to be on the safe side is unnecessary and can lead to anxiety and worry over harmless things. The Mayo Clinic book takes a scientific rather than anecdotal approach which I really appreciated. I also liked the organization of the information in the book as compared to others. It's a large book that most people probably won't read from cover to cover in progressive sittings. The book's structure really made it easy to find what I was looking for at that particular moment as well as the stage by stage overview of my pregnancy.

Overall this has been my favorite go to resource for preggers info. The other books out there are a little more down to earth, kind of like having a conversation with a friend (who may or may not have their facts straight). This book was like having a medical expert at my beck and call to answer any question I could think of. This really helped to allay some of my first-timer concerns, whereas some of the other books would have given me more reasons to worry if I hadn't done my own research.
